Beers’ Spotlight: Matt Rowley

25 09 2008

Recently, I had a chance to sit down and talk to Beers’ left fielder, Matt Rowley.  Matt is having a career year and has yet to break anything that belongs to Beers players.

1. What do you contribute your success to this year? Not only are you 1st in hits, but tied for HR, 1st in RBIs, and 2nd in runs…

Jon, it’s pure commitment to the off season workout. With the help of my training team, Stella & Bronx, I have exponentially increased the size of my B’s and T’s. I also am using a lot more hips in my swing (that’s what she said).

2. What actions, if any, should be taken against star pitcher, Mike Peterson, for his tardiness to the games this year?

Quite honestly there has been a lot of buzz around the locker room on this topic. Some say he’s late cause he’s at the Home Depot, some say Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and some just say he’s a faggot. I don’t know really, it’s quite difficult to diagnose, but I can tell you one thing….as long as he’s late, you better let that guy Rowley pitch. He’s got a mean arc on his ball (that’s what she said).

3. What off season training did you do this year to get in such great softball shape?

Please refer to question #1. I love you Mom.

4. Many fans have noticed a massive bulge in your mouth during games. Care to comment?

It’s a bulge of awesomeness.

5. Who do you like this year to win the World Series?

The Orioles

Beers Come Out Swinging, Score 36 runs

17 04 2008

Ryan Reese was quoted earlier this week saying “I predict we have a come from behind win in the first game and then blow them away in the 2nd. Also, i will be 3 for 4 and 5 for 5 as expected and they will all be singles.” Turns out Reese was pretty much spot on… except for that whole dyslexia thing. The Beers needed battle back from behind in the second game to secure the sweep.

Game 1 started off strong with the Beers scoring 4 runs in the first inning. After a solid inning of pitching from Peterson, the Beers’ bats stayed on fire. Scoring 8 more runs on 8 hits put the Beers up 12-0. The bats never did seem to cool down and the Beers scored 8 more wins to secure the 20-1 slaughter rule victory.

The Beers came out in game 2 still jacked up about their 20 run and 25 hit performance, but their bats on the other hand, seemed to have cooled off. The Beers found themselves quickly in a 9-2 hole. In the 4th inning, Roach led off with a double to start the inning Cusick, Daw and Budnyk each drove in a run to make the score 9-5. Going into the bottom of the 6th, the score was 9-6. Nick and Daw started the inning with a single and double, which brought Budnyk to the plate. Budnyk connected and drove the ball over the fence with a game tying 3 run homerun. This turned out to be the spark that the Beers needed and they scored 7 more runs in the inning. The Hosers scored 1 more in the bottom of the 6th but fell to the Beers 16-10.

You can catch the Beers next Wednesday at 8:30pm at Jenny Dean field.
